What Is Ransomware and How Do You Protect Yourself?

What is Ransomware?

In General Definition, it's a malicious software that crawl through your computer files in all drives and encrypts each file and make it useless unless you pay some specific amount of money to unlock it. It can spread in networks as well if  you're connect in.

Who's at Risk?



Almost anyone, who uses internet....

Prevention Steps?

Nothing really, as of now, which is totally secure. But the best bet would be Backup and Backup!

How to protect yourself?  

From the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre:

  • Avoid opening email attachments from unknown sources
  • Ensure your anti-virus software is active and up-to-date
  • Schedule Scan and remove existing malware 
  • Keep your operating system and software up-to-date 
  • Make regular backups of important files 
  • Be vigilant against clicking on links or attachments within emails
